Spencer Agency celebrates 10 years

FLINT – Often times, crime is center stage in Flint, but tonight we are taking time to showcase a local company celebrating a decade in business.

The Spencer Agency is celebrating 10 years in Flint. To celebrate, they invited the community to have some fun and enjoy free food and live entertainment

Caribbean style.

Imagine turning Second Street in downtown Flint into a tropical paradise. Even on this cool Friday night, it was done.

“My goal is to have a positive story about Flint,” said Josh Spencer, owner of the Spencer Agency.

If you didn’t know it, you would think you were on a tropical island. From tortoises, to live music, to fruity drinks, Spencer Agency didn’t miss a beat on their tenth anniversary celebration.

Spencer says he wouldn’t have made it without the support from the community. “It’s time to give back for all of the blessings to keep us going through a bad economy,” he said.

Spencer’s love for Flint sparked this unique and creative event. He hopes it’s a sign of more fun to come. “Our goal was to turn Second Street into a tropical oasis. I think we have accomplished that. It’s something to unique to Flint. My hope is that it sparks a new wave of other businesses to do these kind of organic events,” he said.

“Downtown flint is reviving. This is a great opportunity to come here [and] be a part of the atmosphere,” said Lisa Metropoulos of Genesee County.

In a city where its reputation is of violence and loss, Friday night’s oasis perhaps is a turning point.

Every weekend but two this summer have events planned in downtown from now until Labor Day.
